Missions

One of the basic goals of Fox Island Alliance Church is to support missionaries who go out and spread the GOOD NEWS through out the world.

Mission Team Reports

Footsteps Mission Team Report 2010

This is a list of the missionaries that we support, their sending organization, and where God has sent them. For a more detailed accounting booklets are available in the church foyer by the Mission's Board.

Gwenn Burch - Japan
Gwenn is currently working in Sendai, Japan which is two hours north of Tokyo by “bullet train.” She works for a Christian school called Maysen Academy. She teaches, in English, fifteen four-year-olds from Japanese families. Her class is called “The Puppies Class.” None of the children know Jesus (yet.) This means that she has a great opportunity to share Jesus with all of them & also with her non-Christian co-workers. Japan is a country with only a few thousand believers among its population of several million. Very few Japanese people know the Lord.

Eric & Jennifer Dooley - South East Asia  - Currently at home in Washington
The Dooleys have been planting & pastoring churches in Southeast Asia since 1986. Today there are approximately 50 churches that trace their history to five churches he planted in Indonesia from '86 - '90. Eric regularly returns to visit the churches in Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar and hosts an annual church leadership conference for the pastors and leaders in New Life Fellowship of Churches.

MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship)
Fox Island Alliance supports missionaries in Central Asia.

Ann Grinnell - Indonesia with the Christian & Missionary Alliance
Ann is a full-time missionary, currently living in Samarinda, East Kalimantan in Indonesia doing youth ministry and teaching part time in two Bible Schools.

Kim Hughes - Quito, Ecuador
Resourcing Christian Educators
Kim is teaching third grade students in the Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador, and leads the elementary chapel services each day. On weekends she attends a Quichua Indian church and help teach Sunday school.

Phil & Adinela Ness - Romania
They have built a ministry center in Marge where Adinela meets regularly with the children for Christian instruction & worship & where the children can use the computers, play ping pong, basketball, table games, assemble puzzles, listen to music & read books. Most of the children come from non-Christian homes, some are orphans, & many are from very poor families. Several have become believers in Jesus & all of them have learned to pray, sing Christian songs, & memorize Scripture. The ministry is based on love for these children & meeting their spiritual & physical needs.

Adinela is also involved with friendship evangelism & Phil preaches quite regularly in the Marga Baptist church & other places as well as being a facilitator for the children’s ministry.

Mitch & Ruth Ohlendorf - Philippines
CSC (Children’s Shelter of Cebu)
Mitch is now the Executive Director of the shelter & school. He also works with the Philippine government in the adoptive placement of CSC’s children. His greatest reward is seeing children being saved—physically, spiritually & emotionally.

Ruth is a social worker & works as Outreach Director with children who have returned to their families.

David & Catalina Roddy - Romania - Currently home in Washington
David serves and encourages Romanian pastors and works in establishing youth and children’s groups in Romanian villages. He leads two youth groups and is developing leaders to reach the next generation of Romanian youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He also teaches guitar lessons to a number of students and holds a couple of English classes each week.

Mark & Cheryl Shafer - Ecuador
CPE (Church Partnership Evangelism)
Now they are serving with CPE International as the Director for Central & South America along with Inca Link a compassion ministry started by Alliance missionaries. Mark & Cheryl mostly work alongside Quichua Indian Pastors who are planting churches where there are no churches. We train pastors & lay members to share the gospel & disciple new believers. The work with Inca Link is to mentor inters, and administer short term teams coming from North America. They connect Inca Link teams with ongoing compassion ministries and with church plants. The Shafer's also spend time in other countries, including Nicaragua.

One of their main ministries is mentoring pastors. They provide friendship, training, prayer, & resources to many pastors in central & S. America. Cheryl ministers to the pastors’ wives – a much needed ministry because many of the wives are the bread winners so that their husbands can pastor.

Joel & Nicki Van Hoogen - Idaho
CPE (Church Partnership Evangelism)
Nicki is a supportive wife and usually stays home with their five children while Joel travels a large percent of the time. He is the pastor of the Bread of Life Fellowship Church in Boise, Idaho & also preaches on a radio program sponsored by the church which is broadcast in southern Idaho every week day.

Joel continues to direct the ministries of CPE internationally. In addition to leading teams abroad, he works at opening up new countries to the ministry, consulting with and assisting the other CPE leaders & representatives in carrying out CPE ministries in over 30 different countries.

Dozens of Fox Island Alliance members have traveled to many places with Joel and the CPE. Our own Mark Shafer is the CPE Director for South America.

Joel is also the President of Cambodian Christian Embassy, a ministry devoted to presenting Christ & His church before the leaders of Cambodia. The Director of that ministry functions as the Advisor in Religion to the Council of Ministers for the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Caleb & Sarah Wilson - Port Townsend
YWAM (Youth With a Mission)
Caleb & Sarah are now on staff at the Port Townsend YWAM base where they have committed to being for two years. They are involved in leadership & discipleship training & overseas outreach. They are currently in training for a long term ministry in China and planning, Lord willing, to leave January 2011.

Mike & Wendy Wood - Chiang Mai, Thailand
IFAP (International Fellowship of Alliance Professionals)
Mike & Wendy have been living and teaching in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mike his the Spiritual Life Director at the Grace International School where Wendy is teaching a third grade class. Mike oversees the chapel programs, teaches Theology and mentors spiritual leaders. He is also involved in the prison ministry at their church. Ethan & Alex also attend GIS which is mainly for children of International Christian workers, although many local Thai children attend as well. It is a Kindergarten through 12th grade school with an American curriculum & about 500 students.
